Laura Miller is a writer for Ebony and rolling out magazine, A black woman, A daughter, A mother of two, A wife and A friend. Whom in the short time of forty five minutes has inspired myself to be fearless in pursuing any goal that I have conjuring in my soul.

Q. What inspired you to write?

Both my parents wanted to be writers but it wasn't until my mothers boyfriend read my diary that i began to stop writing and instead suppressed my feelings. not being able to write made me be that extra loud, always cussing someone out angry young woman. As I began to climb the corporate ladder i grew continually unhappy. I was fired at 30weeks pregnant and vented through a blog i created called “the sister girl blog”. A creative space for women of color to uplift and empower each other through story telling.

Q. What do you like about writing?

The sense of freedom it gives me. I am most free when i write and I can say exactly what I feel as well as reach people that may feel the same way or touches my readers in a effective way.

Q. What was your favorite article that you've written thus far?

A. I would have to pick two. Dear daughter and Black women need a tribe. Dear Daughter is a letter to young women growing up with fathers. Its an article that makes that black daughter know she isn't alone, she is loved and no matter what to know that his actions doesn't defy who she is. The black women need a tribe is also about woman coming together in a supportive and loving way. I have never been that girls girl type i don't have a lot go girl friends, i always was around more male friends. But as i grew older i began to appreciate the women around me and realized how important that sister bond truly is.
